Joanne Virginia Mayer

Joanne Virginia Mayer, 84, of La Crescent, MN, died on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Bethany Riverside Care Center surrounded by family. She was born on June 2, 1934 in La Crosse to Leonard and Virginia (Kerr) Betz. Joanne married Robert Mayer on June 10, 1962 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse. She taught special education at the La Crescent Elementary School for many years.

A beloved mother, wife, grandmother, friend and teacher, she is survived by her husband Robert; two sons, Matthew (Tanya) of Woodbury, MN and Eric (Carol) of Phoenix, AZ; and four grandchildren, Michael, Kirsten, Jennavive, and Dalia. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Gary Betz, Bobby Kerr, and Beth Tischer.

Visitation will be held at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crescent on Thursday, October 25 ^th , beginning at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Joanne Richmond. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in La Crescent following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.
