JoAnn “Josie” Schaller, born JoAnn Irene Steidl, 68, of Brownsville, MN passed away unexpectedly following an extended battle with breast cancer on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI.
Josie was born November 9, 1955, in La Crosse to Joseph and Irene “Peachie” Steidl and graduated from Aquinas High School. On March 17, 1985, she married Jeff “Shifty” Schaller in La Crosse.
Josie was part of the Trinity Singers choir group from Holy Trinity in La Crosse. For 33 years, Josie worked at Gunderson Health System as the office mom for the Pulmonary and Sleep Departments, eventually retiring in 2020.
For Josie, her family and friends always came first. She will be missed; her genuineness and thoughtfulness has impacted many. She was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, especially for the Packers and Badgers.
Josie is survived by her husband, Shifty; her sons, Joe (Christa) and Casey (Madison Sanderson); siblings, Judy (Steve) Fuchsteiner, Tom (Jane) Steidl, Cathy (Greg) Engen, and Mark (Bonnie) Steidl; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Peachie, infant daughter Angel Rose Schaller, and her brother Steven Steidl.
Services will be held at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services building at 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse. There will be a visitation on Friday, January 19, from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. The following day at the same location, a prayer service will be held at 2:00 P.M. with a brief visitation beforehand.
