Joan M. Stegen

Joan M. Stegen, 76, of Beaver Dam, Wis., died peacefully, with her family at her side, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam on Thursday, August 13, 2020.

Joan was born in Lacrosse, on January 15, 1944, the daughter of Paul and Charlotte (Will) Schwabenbauer, and was a 1962 graduate of Aquinas high school.  She married the love of her life, Sherman Stegen, on August 31, 1963, Saint John’s Catholic Church. Joan worked at the A & W and Shoe Factory in Beaver Dam.  In her free time, she enjoyed watching the Packers and Badgers and spending time with family and friends.  She also loved reading books and novels.

She is survived by her loving husband, Sherman; her son, Dale (Victoria) Stegen; grandson, Dylan Stegen; step-grandson, Travis (Brandy) Geschke; step great grandson, Berkley; one brother, Charles (Ruth) Schwabenbauer; four sisters, Mary Ann Gabrielson, Donna (Bob) Lapp, Kathleen (Ken) Williams, and Diane (Tim) Niebuhr; sister-in-law, Doris (Duane) Triplett;  brother-in-law, Jerry Kendhammer; and nieces and nephews.  Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Randy, in 1982; her brother, Joseph Schwabenbauer and his wife, Arlene; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Ina Stegen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Laverne and Darlene Stegen; and sisters-in-law, Lavaine (Larry) Dugan and Valerie (Jerry) Kendhammer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 21 ^st , at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse.  Deacon Bob Zietlow will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery.  Guests are asked to be mindful of social distance guidelines while in attendance. and masks or facial coverings will be required.

She will be dearly missed.
