James A. “Jim” Freybler, 85, of La Crosse, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 22, 2021.
He was born January 2, 1936, in La Crosse to Albert and Pauline (Kallenbach) Freybler. He attended Holy Trinity grade school and was a 1954 graduate of Aquinas High School. On August 12, 1955, Jim married Nancy Marx at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in La Crosse. Nancy preceded him in death on April 30, 2010.
Jim worked as a route salesman for Holsum Bakery for 45 years before retiring in 1998. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching the Packers. For many years, he also enjoyed meeting some of his fellow Aquinas classmates each month for breakfast.
Jim’s true joy in life was his family. The Freybler back yard and pool became the neighborhood playground for his children and their friends when they were growing up and later for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim and Nancy wintered in Arizona for nineteen years sharing good times while spending time with friends and family. Following Nancy’s death, Jim continued travelling to Arizona each year right up until this past April.
Jim is survived by his children, Christine (Mike) Mowery of Casa Grande, Ariz., Vicky Freybler of La Crosse, Ann (Terry) Burrow of Onalaska, Sharon (Larry) Kelbel of Onalaska, Anthony (Cindy) Freybler of Savannah, Ga., and Michael (Mary) Freybler of Onalaska; his grandchildren, Sheri (Butch) Morrison, Mike Mowery, Scott (Kaila) Mowery, Jason (Kris) Mowery, Shana (Adam) Steedle, Ben (Rachel) Burrow, Brad Burrow, Jason (Heidi) Kelbel, Jami (Matt) Lyons, Abe Freybler, Asher Freybler (fiancé, Autumn), Addison Freybler, Alyssa Freybler and Haley Freybler; as well as twenty-two great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Robert (Bev) Freybler, and a sister, Elizabeth (Bob) Blackburn, both of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Freybler of La Crosse and Joyce Verhasselt of Neenah, Wis.; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Nancy, Jim was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Freybler.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 28 th , at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Rev. Rick Roberts will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Parish or Aquinas High School.
