On September 4, 2024, Jeffrey Severson’s courageous 5-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer ended.
Jeffrey John Severson was born on October 22, 1952, to Joyce (Ray) and Wesley Severson. He attended West Salem High School and graduated in 1971. After high school, he worked in construction building houses. He was a tinkerer and could fix anything. One night in August of 1972, he walked into the Wonder Bar and saw the love of his life, Debbie Strittmater. They were wed on June 23, 1973. Jeff started working at G. Heilman Brewery, where he worked for 43 years as the maintenance and safety man. Jeff was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter, horseshoe thrower, and softball player. He loved watching his two favorite sports teams, the Brewers and the Packers. Jeff was best known for his sense of humor and kind soul. Jeff touched so many people in his life.
Jeff’s greatest joys in life were his children Chad (Brenda) Severson and Cheri (Brent) Hill and his grandchildren Nadeen, Kaitlynn, Maycee, Emma, and Austin. Jeff loved spending time with his family. On Sundays in the summer, you would find Jeff out in the driveway playing corn hole with his family. When his cornhole team would win, you’d be sure to hear him say, “Hey Alexa play we are the champions.” On Sundays in the fall, his family would gather to watch the Packers play, and he enjoyed going out at halftime for an intermission football game. Most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He was their #1 fan. He would give anything for his family. Jeff fought his cancer for the last 5 years to have quality time with them. He was able to take his family on 2 cruises, where priceless memories were made. He was a hard worker all of his life just so he could give his family the world.
He’ll be remembered for his “Love you Firsts” and “Just try its.” He will be missed by many.
Jeff was proceeded in death by his parents, Joyce (Ray) Carlson and Wesley Severson, his brother Wesley (Butch) Severson, his sister Estella DeMeuse, his inlaws Gladys and Harold Strittmater, and his brother-in-laws Dick Wieble, Wayne, Kenny, and Ron Strittmatter, and sister-in-laws Diane and Marlene Strittmater.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 51 years, his children and grandchildren, sisters Debby Smith, Cindie (John) Huxsahl, and Tammy (Ron) Buisman, brother-in-laws Steve DeMeuse, Harold Strittmater, Gerald Strittmater, Larry(Patti) Strittmater, Glenn(Jane) Strittmater, Dale(Ella) Strittmater, sister-in-laws, Kathy Strittmater and Darlene (Larry) Nelson, many nieces and nephews and some very good lifelong friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Deb and Jeff’s neighbor, Jim, who was there to help Jeff out around the house when Jeff was unable. Jeff’s family would also like to say thank you to all of their family, friends, coworkers, and medical staff who have supported them throughout the last 5 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Wieser Park Pavilion, 1811 Cty. Rd. 6, La Crescent, MN 55947, immediately following the memorial service. Please wear casual clothing, whether it's Brewers, Packers, Badgers, or G. Heilman Brewery, something that makes you think of Jeff.
