Jeffrey Schumacher

February 8, 1954 — September 15, 2017

Jeffrey “Jeff” A. Schumacher, 63, of La Crosse, passed away at his home on Friday, September 15, 2017.

He was born in La Crosse on February 8, 1954, to Edwin and Valeria (Volk) Schumacher. He attended La Crosse schools and was a 1972 graduate of Central High School. On August 21, 1976, Jeff married Mary Stevens at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman.

After his graduation from Central, Jeff enlisted in the U.S. Navy and also served in the Naval Reserves for a number of years. After his discharge from active duty, Jeff received training in welding at W.W.T.C. He worked briefly for River Steel in La Crosse then worked for the Trane Company for over 30 years before retiring.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Daniel (Jayna) Schumacher of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Kim Schumacher of La Crosse; two grandchildren, Rory and Adalina; one sister, Paula (Chris) Kettner of Mazomanie, Wis.; four brothers, Ronnie (Carmen) of Menomonie, Wis., Peter (Maureen) of La Crosse, Stevie (Carol) of Fond du lac, Wis., and David (Patty) of La Crosse; many nieces and nephews; and his in-laws, Steve, Debbie and Jennie Dellenbach. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son, Michael; one sister, Kristy Schumacher; and one brother James Schumacher.

Jeff’s love for his children and wife was more than his words or ours could ever convey. He was very proud of his kids and treasured time with them at all ages. He looked forward to anytime spent with his grandchildren whether it was a hug, a cute story or an adorable photo. His quiet love spoke volumes to his entire family and those who knew him well. Jeff’s quiet strength is with us now.

Jeff was very proud of his work and supporting his family and did both well. He would do all he could for his family. He also did his part for his country and was proud to serve in the United States Navy.

He reconnected with is best man and some coworkers after he retired. He also found joy with the staff and friends he met along the way at his exercise class at Gundersen. He enjoyed painting, sports, and loved a day at a game with his family, talking sports, doing circle word puzzles and going to concerts.

Jeff was able to remind us there is much to joy in all the simple things around us. Whether it be his artwork, gentle manner or countless ways, all those who knew him will deeply feel a loss of love that won’t be found elsewhere.
