Jeanette Rose Steinke

November 22, 1924 — October 24, 2023

Jeanette Rose Steinke, age 98, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at La Crescent Health Services. She was born in La Crosse, WI on November 22, 1924 to Joseph and Mina (Gilbertson) Erlewein.

She married Karl Steinke on February 20, 1945 in Hokah, MN and worked at La Crosse Rubber Mills/Footwear. Jeanette was a lifelong member of the Thomas Rooney Post 1530 in La Crosse, WI and served as a Past President and Past District President for Post 1530. She dedicated her time volunteering at the Tomah VA Medical Center for 30 years. While she was still able, she was an active member at her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Karl Steinke; daughter Fay (husband Jim) (Steinke) Reiley; grandson Tim Loken; son-in-law Dale Nelsestuen; siblings Angela Butterfield, Helen Palmer, Marion Miller Willard Erlewein, Arthur Erlewein, Edward Erlewein.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter Elaine (Steinke) Nelsestuen of Blaine, MN; four granddaughters: Julie Fields of Minneapolis, MN, Jill Nerud of St. George, Utah, Kim Habben of Blaine, MN, and Toni Domino of Andover, MN; eight great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; special best friend Sandee Feuerhelm; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Community Church of Hokah, 204 Main Street, Hokah, MN 55941 with visitation being held one hour prior from 10:30-11:30 A.M. Burial will follow after the service at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Jeanette helped quite a few people when they were sick and needed help. She will be missed by all. Love You Jeanette.
