Jean E. Sauer

Jean E. Tanke Davidson Sauer, 94, of Hokah, MN passed away at her home on Sunday, September 23, 2018. She was born in La Crosse, WI on September 28, 1923 to Gustave and Esther (Richards) Tanke. She married Thomas D. Davidson on February 21, 1944 and he preceded her in death on December 25, 1956. She married Joseph C. Sauer on May 30, 1959 and he preceded her in death on July 4, 1979.

Jean was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah. She worked as a secretary for St. Pius X Church, Holy Cross Seminary, Holy Trinity Church and the Diocese of La Crosse. She was a volunteer secretary at St. Peter’s School in Hokah and a member of St. Ann’s Society funeral luncheon committee.

Jean is survived by her daughter Barbara (David) Kirchoff; granddaughter Kim (Tony) Holter, grandson Tom (Kelly) Kirchoff, all of Hokah, MN; great grandsons Allen Kirchoff of La Crescent, MN, Jerry (Mary) Holter of Caledonia, MN; great - great granddaughters Hannah and Gabby Holter both of Caledonia, MN; sister Gerlaine Olson of Gilbert, MN; sister-in-law Mary Schaffer of Hokah, MN; brother-in-law Jerry Sauer of Hanover Park, IL along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family was Jean’s prized possession and she was so proud of each and everyone of them.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister Veronne (Joe) Millard of Kansas City, MO; brothers Virgil (Viola) Tanke of La Crosse. WI, Milton (Gloria) Tanke of Placentia, CA and Dale Tanke of Riverside, CA; brothers-in-law Arnold Olson of Gilbert, MN, Richard (Marge) Davidson of Boise, ID and Roy Schaffer of Hokah, MN; sisters-in-law Carmen Sauer of Hanover Park, IL and Helen (Don) Lorenz of Hokah, MN.

In keeping with Jean’s wishes there will be no services. Private family burial will take place in the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse, WI.
