Jean Marie (Lemke) Thakur

Jean Marie (Lemke) Thakur, 78, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, surrounded by family at the Mulder Health Care Center in West Salem. Jean was born on October 31, 1943 in La Crescent, MN.

She worked as a Hospital Ward Secretary, County Health care provider, was a food and beverage manager at Holiday Inn in La Crosse. She was also once the owner of Big River Bar & Grill in Genoa. She enjoyed traveling the world, cooking, baking and socializing with friends. She loved all animals and tried to rescue them all. She loved football season and was a huge Tom Brady fan.

Jean was married to Virgil Sherry for 24 years and lived in La Crosse where they raised a family together. In 1989 She married Vic Thakur. They lived in Rhode Island, Shimla, India and Guyana, South America. They moved back to La Crosse in 2004. They loved to travel and enjoyed socializing with friends and family.

Jean is survived by her husband Vic; sons, Paul (Sue) Lemke, Dean (Judy) Sherry; daughter Lesli (Gladdie) Sherry; stepsons, Sat (Charmaine) Thakur, Navin (Mary) Thakur, Anter (Nicole) Thakur; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, best friend Barbara Hall and several others whose lives she touched.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of services.
