Jaynie Ann Sheffer

Jaynie Ann Sheffer passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI surrounded by family and loved ones.  She was 62 years old.

She was born July 24th, 1959 in La Crosse, WI to Robert and Phyllis (Haar) Ideker. She grew up on a farm in Hokah, MN and lived in Hokah her entire life.  She graduated from La Crescent High School.  She worked several years at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse in the insurance department, and after having kids she became a stay-at-home mom.  Later, she began volunteering as secretary at St. Peter’s School in Hokah. She also worked for many years at the Hokah and Brownsville post offices where everyone loved seeing her smiling face and receiving a treat.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She always had time to be with them and they always wanted to be with Grandma.  Jaynie was a very active member of the St. Peter’s choir; her beautiful voice could be heard every Sunday and every special event.  She loved St. Peter’s School and helped for many years with the scrip program.

She is survived by her husband Joseph (Joe Sheffer), to whom she was happily married for 36 years; her children Rachel (Matt) DeJarlais, Adam Sheffer, and Jacob (Emily) Sheffer; her grandchildren Michael, Violet, Issac, and Oliver; her siblings Joseph (Karen) and Jeanne (Mark). She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Phyllis (Haar) Ideker and her brother Bob Ideker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah, MN. Fr. Tom Jennings will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Convent Cemetery, Hokah. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 5 – 7 PM and again on Thursday from 9 AM until the time of service. There will be a luncheon at the Hokah Fire Station following the service.
