Janice H. Secor

Janice H. Secor, 93, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Brookdale in Onalaska. She was born on September 26, 1929 in La Crosse to William and Lorena (Thompson) Schlicht. Jan married Robert Secor on October 23, 1948 in First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse and they had over 60 wonderful years together.  He preceded her in death in 2006.In her 80’s, Jan was then blessed to meet Ray Houska and after a whirlwind courtship they were married on January 21, 2017. And while their time together was short, they made the most of it, enjoying a trip to Alaska, drives in the country, and many family dinners. He preceded her in death in 2019.

Jan had worked at the Garment Factory and Montgomery Wards for many years and  she also volunteered at the Good Steward Resale Store and at Mayo Clinic well into her 80’s. Jan enjoyed crocheting and painting and was known for her love of all things leopard print. She was a very special grandma who will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne (Keith) Heinze of La Crescent and Lori (Richard) Rastall of Ettrick, WI, six grandchildren, Amy (Ryan Johnson) Heinze, Ben (Tara) Heinze, Joseph Heinze, Jonathan (Jodi) Rastall, Sarah (Todd) Ruiter, and Rebecca (John) Carlson, twelve great-grandchildren, Sam and Grant Ruiter, Aidan, Logan, and Hannah Rastall, Ephraim, Ada and Eliza Carlson, Isadora and Bernadette Johnson, and Andrew and Emily Heinze.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Fist Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Roger Sachs will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be given to Mayo Clinic Hospice Program.

Her family would like to say a special thanks to the wonderful hospice nurses and staff whose care and comfort helped us all so much through these last several months.
