Janice E. Mellor

Janice E. Mellor, 84, of La Crosse, died at Gundersen Health Systems on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 with all of her children at her side. Janice was born in La Crosse on September 5, 1932 to Emil and Irma (Fredricks) Chesney. She married Clark Bluske in 1951 and they later divorced. She then married Merwin E. Mellor on October 28, 1972 and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2014.

After graduating from Central High School, Jan worked at Bellscot Department Store, Farm and Fleet, Leverenz Shoe Factory and Tecumseh Engines. She also owned and operated a restaurant called the Southside Drive Inn.

Janice was a wonderful cook and gardener and also an avid walker. Most of all she cherished time and holidays with family and friends. She was an amazing wife and mother of eight children. She was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and was a season ticket holder.

Janice is survived by her six children, Jeff (Angela) Bluske of Cape Coral, FL, Steve Bluske of La Crosse, Bob (Kathy) Bluske of Sheboygan, Jyl (Jon) Neis of Pioneer, CA, Dave Bluske of Jordan, MN and Julie (Vinnie) Johnson of Boulder Creek, CA. She is further survived by four stepchildren, Jane (Pete) Mellor McGee of Branford, CT, Jim (Joan) Mellor of Mendota Heights, MN, Joel (Kathy) Mellor of La Crosse, Julie Mellor Riggins of Houston, TX, twenty-nine grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Merwin, her parents, three brothers, one sister, a daughter, Jayne and a son, Daniel.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse with Rev. William Bader officiating. Burial will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
