Janice S. Brudos

Janice S. Brudos passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023, at Riverside Transitional Care facility surrounded by family.  Jan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor.

Jan was born in La Crosse on June 28, 1928, to Alex and Julia (Mathison) Thompson.  She grew up in Arcadia, WI and graduated from Gale-Ettrick High School in 1946.  In high school, she enjoyed choir, band and being a drum major.  Jan married Leroy “Doc” Brudos on July 15th, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville, WI.

Jan was a person who had a myriad of career, hobby, and life experiences. She could do it all.  Her work included office work at Trane, Auto-Lite and The Garment factory among others.  She also worked in the real estate industry for some time.  One of her most treasured occupations was as an owner operator of a stitchery and gift shop called Viking Heritage located in La Crosse. Her other treasured occupation was the owner of Ridgeview Stables.  Horses were one of her passions.

Partnering with her passion for horses, Jan was very active in 4-H both as a young person and as a leader.  She toted many kids and their horses around to practices and horse shows.  Jan also was very active in church activities and the Sons of Norway.  She was a master gardener and loved to bake. She also enjoyed and was a very talented stitcher, quilter, and wood carver.

Jan is survived by her husband, Jarvis Leroy "Doc" Brudos; sons Jefferey (Kathleen) Brudos, Daniel (Elizabeth)  Brudos, and Brent Brudos(Debbie); daughters Susan Renner, Kathleen (Karl) Wehrs, and Jamie Brudos; grandchildren Michael (Julie), Steven (Nicole), Erik, Andrew(Kali), Kyle Brudos, Megan (Jim) Anibas, Keith Renner, Nicholas Bennett, and Cole Newell; bonus grandchildren Michelle (Chris) Bennett and Emily Hemker; great-grandchildren Thomas, Nathan, Frankie, Caleb, Danielle, Aiden, and Jaylee Brudos, Benjamin, Tyler, and Allison Anibas, and bonus grandchild Gannon Bennett. Jan is also survived by sister-in-law Lois Tolvstad, and several nieces and nephews.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Julia (Mathison) Thompson; in-laws Edgar & Anges Brudos; sisters Thelma Sjolander, Alvina Glubka, and Eunice Kissel; son-in-law Ronald Renner; brothers-in-law Willard Sjolander, Lambert Glubka, Charles Kissel, Gary Tolvstad, Ralph Brudos and Clayton Morse; sisters-in-law Mary Brudos and Anita Morse.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hearten House, Riverside Transitional Care and Gunderson Lutheran for the excellent care given to Jan.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2135 Weston St, La Crosse, WI 54601. Rev. Mark Bartusch will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials can be designated for Sugar Creek Bible Camp.
