Janet Elizabeth Gundlach, 87, passed away December 30, 2018 at Benedictine Manor in La Crosse. She was born July 13, 1931 in Caledonia, Minnesota to Bernard and Anna (Druschke) Fiebig. Her early childhood was spent in Caledonia, but the family moved to La Crosse where she graduated from Aquinas High School.
On August 5, 1950, she married Herbert Gundlach at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2014. Their early married life was spent in Madison WI while Herb completed his Engineering degree. They settled in La Crosse where they raised a family and enjoyed a full life. They were charter members of St. Pius X Parish, and later joined Mary Mother of the Church. Janet will be remembered for her strong Catholic faith.
Janet enjoyed a love of Bingo, any kind of card game from Bridge to Poker, bus trips to “The Boat” with her friends and an occasional Brandy Manhattan with two olives. Her greatest love, however, was her family. She was well known for offering extended stay hospitality and hosting family dinners with generous portions, and always welcoming her children and their friends into her home, no matter the hour. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandma, and will be missed.
Janet is survived by her children: Daniel (Lynn) Gundlach, Debra (Don Preisler) Garbis, and David Gundlach; Grandchildren: Kym (Ben Williams) Gundlach, Cary (Terri) Gundlach, Nicole (Jeff) Harrison, Michael (Kristen) Garbis, Evan (Megan) Gundlach and Elizabeth (Bobby Reichert) Gundlach; and Great-Grandchildren: Madelyn & fiancé Jake, Hunter, Julia, Carter, Kendall, Ava and Alexis. She is also survived by a sister, Tamara Reise and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Herbert, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harvey Fiebig, and sisters Corinne Sandvick and Carolyn Fiebig.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff of Benedictine Manor for the loving care extended to Janet during her stay with them.
