James Lewis Stading, 65, of La Crosse, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
Jim was born on October 26, 1952, the fifth of six sons born to Earl and Jessie (Williams) Stading of Dakota City, Neb.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Stella; daughter, Tina Stading, his “little Teeny”; three brothers, Donald, Kenneth and Robert of Nebraska; a special nephew, Brian Stading; sister-in-law, Tycha Stading; best “buds”, Richard Grey and Brandon Hockenberry; and special companions, Rosie and Cheyenne. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ronald and Daniel.
Jim served 21 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He worked for 22 years at Isola and at the age of 50, made a career change and graduated from WTC as a nurse. He was well-liked by his patients and loved nursing, retiring in 2017 from the Tomah Veterans Administration - La Crosse Clinic. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1530 of La Crosse, American Legion Post 336 and a past Jaycee member.
A casual sort of guy who sported a long blonde ponytail, Jim had a deep love for Native American spirituality and was a true outdoorsman who loved and respected all that Mother Nature offered. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, Packers, Badgers and Cornhusker football, and making deer horn handles for knives. He was a loving and caring husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 10 th , at the Oak Grove Cemetery Chapel. Rev. Daniel Block will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Onalaska American Legion Post 336. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family.
