James Thomas Lyden

James Thomas Lyden of La Crosse, Wisconsin passed away on February 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old. He was born on January 19, 1930 in La Crosse to Donald and Louise (Dialler) Lyden Sr.

Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou (Johnson); and his four children, James Patrick Lyden and Anne, La Crosse, WI; Mary Louise (Randy) Muller, Houston, MN; Stacie Ann (Rick) Stark Saukville, WI, Susan Marie (Peter) Kroner Onalaska, WI. Jim also leaves behind six grandchildren; James Lyden, La Crosse, WI; Allison Lyden (Cory) Hutzenbuehler, West Salem, WI; Amanda Kroner, Colorado Springs, CO; Karl Kroner, Holmen, WI; Jennifer Muller, Winona, MN; and Karen Muller, Michigan City, IN; along with four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Louise Lyden; and siblings Donald Lyden and Jerry Lyden.

Jim was born on January 19, 1930 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He graduated from Central High School in January of 1948. He worked with his father and brothers at Lyden Brother Implements. Jim was honored to serve in the United States Army being stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He spent 30+ years as a Civil Servant with the United States Postal Service. He and Mary Lou were married June 15, 1955 in La Crosse. Over the years the family enjoyed camping vacations, trips to Wisconsin Dells, and frequent visits to Ranison Ice Cream. His hobbies included bowling for Schumacher-Kish, golfing, watching the Green Bay Packers and over 40 years as an Eagles member, becoming a Golden Eagle.

Jim passed away peacefully at Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare (St. Francis hospital) after a short illness. He will be remembered as a humorous, kind and gentle man.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse. Deacon Richard Sage will officiate. Internment immediately following the service at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. All are welcome to join with us in celebrating Jim’s life.
