James J. Kohlmeier

February 13, 1948 — November 12, 2017

James J. “Jim” Kohlmeier, 69 of La Crosse, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, November 12, 2017. He was born February 13, 1948 in La Crosse to George and Viola (Lehmann) Kohlmeier. Jim graduated from Aquinas High School, where he pursued his love for football.

On June 7, 1969 he married Pam Rutz in La Crosse. Jim served in the National Guard and worked as a mechanic at G. Heileman Brewing Company for over 40 years, retiring from City Brewery in 2008. He was a hardworking man, dedicated to his job and his family.

In his younger days, Jim loved to play fast pitch softball and spent many hours on the mound pitching. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. These interests also led to a love for taxidermy. One of Jim’s favorite hobbies was working the family farm and taking care of his cows, all of which had a name. Though in recent years, nothing brought him more enjoyment then spending time with his grandkids, who loved him with all of their hearts. Jim and Pam were married for 48 years and their marriage was full of love and amazing friendship.

In addition to his wife Pam, he is survived by two children; Lori (Mark) Koblitz of La Crosse and Jim (Cheryl) Kohlmeier, Jr. of West Salem; four grandchildren, Anna Koblitz, Karlena Koblitz, James Kohlmeier, III and Evan Kohlmeier; a sister, Judy (Roger) Muetzel of Sheboygan, WI; a brother George “Butch” (Jeanne) Kohlmeier of La Crosse; along with an aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.
