James D. “Jim” Jones, 93, of La Crosse, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem.
Jim was born April 26, 1928, in Sparta, Wis., to Rollen and Dorothy (McClintock) Jones of Leon, Wis. He attended elementary and high school in Mindoro and graduated as Salutatorian of his class. Following graduation, he was employed at Johnson Grocery in Mindoro. He then enrolled in a business course at the La Crosse Vocational School and later secured employment at the former First National Bank of La Crosse, later known as Norwest Bank, for 41 years, attaining the position of Auditor and Bank Accounting Officer. After retirement, Jim worked at Pleasoning Seasonings for many years. He also gave of his free time as a care person for many years.
Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, serving one year in Heilbronn, Germany.
On July 20, 1963, Jim married Donna Affeldt in La Crosse. Donna preceded him in death on April 14, 2009.
Jim enjoyed refinishing furniture, chair caning, genealogy, and spending time with his grandchildren, James, Ryan, and Rachel. He served his faith in membership, attendance, and serving in church offices at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
Jim is survived by his children, Susan (Glen) Kuschel of Cashton, Wis., Lisa (John) Smizek of La Crosse, and Alan (Shelly) Jones of La Crosse; four grandchildren, James (Stephanie) Smizek, John Smizek, and Ryan and Rachel Jones; two great grandchildren, Maxwell and Colton Smizek; three sisters, Mary Lou Pfaff, Janice Lash, and Carol Storandt; one brother, Clifton “Bill” Jones; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Donna, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Stetzer; and four brothers-in-law, Leo Stetzer, Duane Pfaff, Vilas Lash, and Reuben Storandt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 13 th , at First Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Roger Sachs will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse, and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church, West Salem Historical Society, or the Hamlin Garland House. Online condolences may be submitted at www.schumacher-kish.com .
