James Thomas Caucutt

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Thomas Caucutt at the age of 87 on December 5, 2023. James was born on August 27, 1936 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Jane Caucutt (Osborne) and son, Stephen Andrew Caucutt.

James was an honorable man who served his country in the Air Force and retired after twenty years of service.  He went on and also served his local community as a Wisconsin State Patrol Officer, United States Post office employee, and local tavern owner. He, along with his wife, were volunteers at the La Crosse civic center for many years where they served Thanksgiving dinners for those in need or without families. In addition to this work, he also enjoyed refinishing antique furniture as a hobby and participating in local flea markets. He enjoyed gardening and his house, garden and yard were always well taken care of and a showplace of the neighborhood.

James married Patricia Jane Caucutt in Norwich, England while stationed there in the United States Air Force and together they had three sons, John Russell Caucutt, Michael Alan Caucutt, and Stephen Andrew Caucutt.  Throughout his military career and later in retirement, his family always came first to him and he always made sure they were well taken care of.

A private funeral service will be held for James with immediate family present to honor his memory.  We will remember him fondly as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law and colleague whose presence will always be with us.

Born on August 27, 1936, in Madison, Wisconsin, James was the son of Thomas and Evelyn Caucutt (Gunderson).

James will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Roger, Elizabeth, Drayton, Katherine, and Emma, surviving sons John and Michael, and daughters in-law Nancy Stoll Caucutt and Paula Caucutt (Woodworth) He is also survived by his brother Richard Caucutt, as well as his sisters Geri and Carol.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Caucutt (Osborne), his son Steve Caucutt (Paula), his parents Thomas and Evelyn Caucutt, and his brother Robert and sister Jean (Schlafer).
