James G. Bina, 88 of La Crosse passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. He was born in La Crosse on July 16, 1929 to Joseph and Clara (Gillis) Bina and graduated from Bangor High School. Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
On April 4, 1959 he married Mary Ellen Fries at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in La Crosse and she preceded him in death on March 23, 2006. Jim had worked as an inspector for the La Crosse Trane Company for over 35 years until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling, puzzles, gardening and was especially proud of his raspberries. Jim was also a member of Roy Vingers American Legion Post 52 in La Crosse for over 40 years.
Jim is survived by five children; Barbara Sue (Jeffrey) Friedman of Justin, TX, Paul Frederic (Jacqueline) Bina of Englewood, FL, Jeanne Marie Bina of Onalaska, Daniel James (Kenny Weber) of Dish, TX and David Joseph (Angela) Bina of Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren, Alex and Greg Friedman of Justin, TX, Monica Merced of Austin, TX, Riley Bina of Milwaukee, Nathan and Emily Bina of Spokane, WA and Chloe Bina of Englewood, FL; a sister, Margaret Bahr of St. Joseph Ridge; a brother, Joseph (Mary “Peach”) Bina of Holmen; five sisters-in-law, Doris Hendrickson, Lois (Larry) Guggenbuehl, Carol Bina, Mary Bina and Delia Bina, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Mary Ellen, he was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Joe, Jr., Thomas, Bernie, Leo and Bina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. June 2nd at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse with Rev. Brian D. Konopa officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in the Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse on Friday from 4-7 P.M. where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 P.M. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.
