James (Jim) A. Abramowski, known to many as “Ski”, of La Crosse, WI passed away peacefully on October 2nd, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Rochester, MN at the age of 72. Jim was born in Milwaukee, WI on March 29th, 1952, to Henry and Mildred Abramowski. He graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 1970. On October 23rd, 1971, he married Christina J. Wehrli in Milwaukee.
Jim began his career in forestry working for Davey Tree Service and Bluemel’s Lawn & Garden Center in Milwaukee. In 1980, he started working for the City of La Crosse in the forestry and street departments. He worked for the city for 27 years before retiring in 2007. Jim also owned and operated Jim’s Tree Service for over 20 years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, gambling, wood working, watching the Packers and Brewers play and giving his grandkids the everlasting life lessons he thought they could use even if they did not want them or knew what he was talking about.
Jim is survived by his wife, Christina; daughters, Amy Pierce, Kimberly Abramowski, and Jamie (James) Bye; grandchildren, Justin, Brett, Brianna, Tracy, Ryan, and Adrian; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Bentley, and Cali; brother, Robert Abramowski; twin sister; Jane Musolf; and brother-in-law, Raymond Jacobson.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carri Abramowski; grandson, Zach Abramowski; sister, Lois Jacobson; and mother-in-law, Patricia Donahue.
Jim’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Gundersen Health System and all the medical professionals in the Neurology and Palliative Care departments at Mayo Clinic Health System in Rochester for their care, patience, and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post #52, 711 6th St. S., La Crosse, WI 54601. Please come and share your memories of Ski and watch one last Packer game with him.
