Iva B. Kerns

Iva B. Kerns, 98, of Dakota, Minnesota passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. She was born on December 6, 1920 in Port Byron, Illinois to Glen and Lillian (Smith) Beach. She married Ambrose Kerns on June 28, 1939. Iva was an active member of Holy Cross Parish for many years. She was a care giver to many family and friends. She also was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to bake.

She is survived by one son Averill Kerns of Buffalo City, WI, five daughters Carol Laehn of Boulder City, NV, Betty Kerns of Dakota, MN, Kathleen (Wayne Haskett) Kerns of Homer, MN, Lillie (Larry) Bauer and Karen Kerns both of Dakota, MN, five grandchildren Heather (Darin), Ryan (Tami), Chelsea (Thad), Leah (fiance’ Shawn) and Michael, nine great grandchildren and one sister Inez Ziemer of Rochester, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 180 Washington St., Dakota, MN. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, 111 S. Oak St., La Crescent on Tuesday from 4-6 PM and again at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of service.
