Irene M. Walter

Irene M. Walter, 88, of Onalaska, WI and formerly of La Crescent, MN passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Mayo Health System in La Crosse. She was born on March 31, 1929 in Rushford, MN to John and Luella (Rostvold) Olson. She married Alfred Walter on January 31, 1948 in Hokah, MN and he preceded her in death on December 14, 1963. After Alfred passed away Irene worked at La Crosse Garment Co. until she retired.

Irene is survived by her children Cheryl (Tom) Kloss of La Crescent, Pat (Andy) Anderson of Onalaska, Joe Walter of La Crescent and Dawn (Bill) Farrell, Jr. of Houston, MN, eleven grandchildren Jamey Kloss, Stephanie Pierce, Amanda Kloss, Eric Anderson, Troy Anderson, Ricky Anderson, Sierra Wood, Jocylyn Poehler, Brent Solecki, Bill Farrell III and Tiffany Carlson, twenty-one great grandchildren, two sisters Theresa Haskey of Stoddard, WI and Deanna (Mike) Harpstrieth of La Crosse, two brothers Virgil Olson and Tony (Sherri) Olson both of La Crosse.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a son Ricky, two sisters Linda Goede and Verna Salvaggio and one brother Jerry Olson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, 111 S. Oak St., La Crescent. Pastor Dan Olson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Toledo Cemetery in La Crescent. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10 AM until the time of service.
