Irene R. Hauser, 92 of Onalaska, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. She was born May 9, 1930, in Nekoosa, Wisconsin to Walter and Lillian (Mlsna) Sobkowiak and graduated from Aquinas High School.
On January 8, 1949, she married Eugene L. Hauser in Waukon, IA and he preceded her in death on July 8, 2008. Irene had worked as a certified dietary manager for over 35 years. She was an active member of St. Patrick Parish in Onalaska, helping with the Friday Fish Fry and with various prayer groups. Irene enjoyed baking, canning and cooking. Irene also was a past National President of the Hospital Institutional Educational Food Service Society. She was also instrumental in the formation of the Meals on Wheels Program for La Crosse County. She loved serving as a professional grandma and traveling to see family. Irene enjoyed life to the fullest and cherished anytime she could be with family, especially Thanksgiving. She treasured her time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her marriage to the love of her life, Gene.
Irene is survived by seven sons; Kirk (Sue) of Onalaska, Ron (Sue) of Holmen, Lonnie (Jackie) of Holmen, Stanley (Diane) of Onalaska, Dr. Russell (Cindy) of Hartland, WI, Hugh (Kathy) of Fitchburg, WI and Ken (Jolene) of Holmen; three daughters, Sue (Bob) VanRiper of Sun City, AZ, Barb (John) Snyder of West Salem and Kristine (Steve) Visher of Lake Crystal, MN; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, Dorothy Pierce, Annie (Bob) Manuel, Bernard (Debbie) Sobkowiak, Ronnie (Sally) Sobkowiak, Dennis (Linda) Sobkowiak and Danny (Margie) Sobkowiak; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Gene, she was preceded in death by a son, Steve Hauser; her parents, and five brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 10 th at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Onalaska with Msgr. Steven Kachel officiating. Burial will follow in the Onalaska City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
