Herbert Peter Meyers, turned 93 on December 22 passed away in his home in La Crosse on January 2, 2021. He was born in 1927 and his parents were Herbert and Cecelia Meyers. He grew up on St. Joseph Ridge and went to St. Joseph Ridge School. Herb was raised on a farm and entered the military in 1950. After service, he worked at Sanitary Dairy for 15 years, UW-La Crosse for 29 years, and St. Francis/Mayo for 48 years. Herb married Marie Hegenbarth on August 12, 1952 at Blessed Sacrament Church in La Crosse and were happily married for 68 years. Herb was a member of Mary Mother of the Church, Knights of Columbus 4 th Degree, and Catholic Financial Life. Herb was passionate about flying his Piper Cub J3 as a young man. Herb was a storyteller and could entertain his family and friends for hours. He loved a great meal and always a great deal. His garage was known as “Herbie’s Hardware” and had a part or tool for whatever you needed. As a family, camping was always an adventure. He was known for grilling “3-beer chicken” wearing a Hawaiian shirt. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren made his eyes sparkle and warmed his heart. Herb’s sense of humor made the world a better place and his smile was infectious.
Herb is survived by his loving wife Marie, his 5 children Rose (Glenn) Wegner, Sandy (Andres) Ameigeiras, Sharon (Jeff) Pedretti, Roxane (Dennis) Herricks, and Kevin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday January 7, 2020 at Mary Mother of the Church, 2006 Weston, St., La Crosse, with the Rev. Brian D. Konopa officiating. A burial with military honors will be immediately following at the Catholic Cemetery on Losey Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mary Mother of the Church.
Herb’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Mayo Hospice especially Liz, Tuesday, Jason, and Steve. He would not have been able to stay at home without you.
He was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed.
