Herbert A. Jaster was called home to his Savior on June 21, 2019. Herb was born on July 4, 1929, in Montello, WI, to Arthur W. and Martha A. (Anklam) Jaster. Herb attended Neillsville Public High School, Northwestern Preparatory School and Northwestern College in Watertown, WI, and graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI, in 1955. Herb served for a year as tutor at Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac, WI, and was ordained into pastoral ministry in 1956 at First Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI.
During his years in public ministry, Herb served congregations in Columbus, WI, and taught at Martin Luther Academy in New Ulm, MN, and at Martin Luther Preparatory School in Prairie du Chien, WI, until his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement, Herb married Helen C. (Lederer) Jaster in the chapel at MLPS in 1993 and moved to La Crosse, WI. In retirement, Herb served in many roles at the congregation where he was first ordained. Herb is survived by his wife of over 26 years.
A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI, on Saturday, July 27 at 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church or to the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary library. To God be the Glory!
