Helen I. Schye, 93 of La Crosse passed away at her home on Friday, June 1, 2018. She was born in La Crosse on January 10, 1925 to George W. and Elizabeth M. (Martin) Dummer. On June 7, 1949 she was united in holy matrimony to John H. Schye at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, La Crosse. He preceded her in death in 1973.
Helen enjoyed cooking and sewing, gardening, reading and was an exceptional knitter. A great source of pleasure for her was feeding and watching the birds outside her window and scolding and chasing the squirrels when they ate the seed! Helen was a quick learner and there were not many tasks around the house that she could not manage.
When her grandchildren were growing up she loved spending time with them, taking them to the park to see the animals, or out for ice cream or a root beer, or building snowmen or playing board games with them. Whatever they did she was just happy to have them with her. Helen was also a faithful member of Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 2008 Weston St., La Crosse, as her Catholic faith was a source of strength for her.
Prior to her marriage, Helen worked at the State Bank in La Crosse. Once her children were grown, she worked at the Swiss Chateau in La Crosse and the last 15 years of her working years she worked at La Crosse Telephone.
Helen is survived by her children; Kathy Claussen of La Crosse and Tom (Jane) Schye of Eau Claire and her three grandchildren; Tina, Aaron and Colin. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Bob.
