Gladys A. Mischnick

October 5, 1925 — December 13, 2021

Gladys “Glady” Mischnick passed away on December 13, 2021 at the age of 96. She was dedicated to her family, had a zest for life, and an amazing work ethic. She loved to cook and bake, and also loved a good joke.

Born in Rhinelander on October 5, 1925 to Edward and Amelia Janke, Glady was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church and attended Zion Lutheran grade school. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1943.

After graduation, Glady moved to Seattle to support the war effort, working at Boeing as a riveter on B-17 bombers.

Glady married Ralph Mischnick in 1948. After marriage she worked at De Byles Department Store and later as a skilled typesetter at the Rhinelander Office Supply and Lithocrafters Printing in Marinette. In the 1970’s and early ‘80s Ralph and Glady owned and operated the Mode O Day clothing store in Marinette. Glady later returned to Rhinelander where she worked at Winslow’s Hallmark store until the age of 86 when she moved  to La Crosse to be closer to family.

Glady is preceded in death by her parents and husband, sisters Elsie Mangerson, and Adeline Davis, and brothers Clarence and Edward Janke. She is survived by her three children; Lynn Dry, Cindy Mischnick (Henderson), Scott Mischnick, and three grandsons, Ryan Mischnick, Ross Mischnick and Nick Henderson.

The Mischnick family would like to thank the Riverside Transitional Care staff for their loving care of our mom.

A private service is planned for a later date.
