Gerhardt C. Moldenhauer

Gerhardt C. Moldenhauer, 92 of La Crescent, Minn., passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Gundersen Health System of La Crosse.  Gerhardt was born in Rose Valley, rural La Crescent on September 25, 1924 to Edward and Frieda (Weist) Moldenhauer. He married Jean E. Kaiser on January 24th, 1948.

Gerhardt graduated from Central High School and worked briefly at Allis Chalmers and Trane Company. Gerhardt had a dream of becoming an electrical engineer, but his plan changed at the age of 18 when he lost his father in a car accident. Gerhardt returned to the family farm to work with his mother Frieda, and younger brother Arthur where together they farmed until their sons were old enough to take the farms over. He met his wife of 69 years at the dentist's office where Jean worked as a dental assistant. Together they raised 5 children and farmed in Pine Creek until his retirement in 1990.

Gerhardt loved the farm, travelling across the United States with Jean, spending time on his wood working projects, playing Euchre, and most of all, spending time with his family. Gerhardt was a life time member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, South Ridge MN. He served on the church council, the La Crescent Town Board, and was active in the Farm Bureau. Gerhardt was more than a hard working farmer who was outstanding in his field! He was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his children Ruth Lemke of Caledonia, Ed (Becky) Moldenhauer of La Crescent, Ann (Scott) Buege of Winona, Steve (Arlene) Moldenhauer of Houston, and Jon (Shannon) Moldenhauer of La Crescent; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church-South Ridge, 4810 County Rd 25, La Crescent. Pastor John Unnasch will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on the family Tuesday evening from 5 - 7 PM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent chapel, 111 South Oak St. Visitation will also be held at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.
