Geraldine “Gerry” Mae Greenwood, 88 of Winona, Minn. and formerly of Pickwick, La Moille and La Crescent, Minn. went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 (Her father’s 35 th “Going Home” anniversary). She was born on November 17, 1928 in Winona to William and Carrie Pearl (Lee) Brennan. She was united in Marriage with Harley Arthur Greenwood on January 11, 1947 and he preceded her in death on August 29, 1992.
Gerry graduated from Winona Senior High School and Winona Secretarial School. She was employed as a secretary at St. Theresa College and Winona Senior High School. Later, she subbed at the La Moille Post Office. She was confirmed as an adult at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winona. Later she became a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent and was currently a member at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickwick, Minn.
She will be remembered for her endless energy! Gerry was happiest when she was dancing with Harley or helping family and friends whether it was cleaning, cooking, baking, babysitting, visiting shut-ins, visiting her mother in C&R Winona (almost everyday for 8 years) or enjoying her son Bruce’s performances with the band Trouble Shooter. She was a charter member of the Pickwick Fire Department auxiliary, the Winona and La Crescent American Legion Auxiliary, Pickwick Mill, Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary, past PTA President and board member. Gerry was also very active in many church activities, community events, entertaining at birthdays, showers and card clubs. Her home was always open and inviting to all! She was also very generous with her time for family and friends whom she treasured.
Gerry is survived by her children; Susan (Rodney) Wilhelm of La Crescent, Bruce (Anna) Greenwood of La Crescent; grandsons Paul (Vicki) Stender and their children Bria and Erin of Adel, Iowa., Brian Stender and his children Ella, Ethan and Erik of Lakeville, Minn., Jason Stender and his daughter Ava of La Crescent, Taylor Buroker of Rushford, Minn., Ryan Chase of La Crescent, granddaughter Ragen (Jason) Jacobs and their children Cameron, Kylie, Jared, Ethan, Carter of Palo, Iowa; her sisters Marge Luedtke of Winona, Joan (Earl) Ladewig of Lewiston, Minn., her brother William (Audrey) Brennan of Winona, her aunt Lorraine Stinson of La Crescent, sister in law Ruth Harvey of Onalaska, Wis. and many special nieces, nephews and her granddog “Eddie”.
Gerry will be laid to rest next to her husband and her parents in the Pickwick Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, May 1, 2017 at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickwick. Pastor James Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5 until 7pm at the Schumacher-Kish funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent chapel; 111 South Oak St. Visitation will also be held at the church on Monday from 10am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated in Gerry’s memory.
