Gerald “Jerry” Wiedman, 89, of La Crosse, died Saturday, September 28 at Bethany St. Joseph Nursing Home. He was born on April 25, 1935, in La Crosse to Ernest and Lila (Lee) Wiedman. Jerry graduated from Central High School in 1953 and attended pharmacy school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jerry was a local pharmacist for many years and owned and operated Major Rexall Drugs for the majority of his career. He sold the store in 1990 and worked as the pharmacist at Bethany St. Joseph Nursing Home until he retired in 1996. Jerry enjoyed traveling with Thelma, the love of his life and wife of nearly 57 years, until her death in 2014. He loved spending time outdoors, either working in his vegetable garden, fishing on the lake or laughing on his back porch with his wonderful neighbors. He was an avid Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer fan and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Laurie (Scott) Plate of Atlanta, GA, Jeff (Lisa) Wiedman of La Crosse, grandchildren Matthew (Kiley) Plate & Rachel (Pepe) Fundora of Atlanta, GA, Abby (Lucas) Warren of La Crosse, and one great-grandchild, Charlee Mae.
The family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Gundersen Medical Foundation for the Gundersen Hospice Program, which cared so well for Jerry in his final days.
