George Reay, Schultz, 79, of La Crosse, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
George was born in La Crosse on June 19, 1939, to Virgil and Elsie (Knutson) Schultz. He was raised in Goodview, Minn., near Winona and graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1957. He later served with the U.S. Army from 1960-1962. On August 13, 1966, George married Martha Newburg at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in La Crosse.
George worked as the general manager at Fibre-Fab in La Crosse for 26 years. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting, skiing, trap shooting and playing cards with family and friends. He was a fantastic cook and loved baking for his grandkids. He and Martha also enjoyed wintering in Florida as well as traveling around the world and going on cruises together. He had a great sense of humor and was loved by many!
George is survived by his wife, Martha; his children, Susan Herber of Madison, Wis., Amy Schultz Pearn of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Andy and Hazel Schultz of Boca Raton, Fla., and Mike and Carol Schultz of St. Louis Park, Minn.; his grandchildren, Tristan and Trenton Herber, Elizabeth and Brodrick Pearn, Pepper and Coco Schultz, and Cooper and Gibson Schultz; and a brother, David Schultz of Little Rock, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard “Dick” Schultz.
A memorial gathering celebrating George’s life will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 11 th , at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. A private family inurnment will take place in the Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in George’s memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at BrightStar Care, with special thanks to Jordan and Bobbi, and also to the nurses and staff at Gundersen Health System for their excellent care.
