George W. Hanson

George W. Hanson, 83, of La Crosse, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Ascension Hospital in Franklin, Wis.

He was born in La Crosse on November 21, 1937, to Einar and Clara (Olsen) Hanson. He attended La Crosse Schools and graduated from Central High School. On August 6, 1960, George married Sharon F. Osowski at St. John’s Catholic Church in La Crosse. Sharon preceded George in death on July 10, 2014.

George worked for Gateway Transportation in La Crosse for 25 years. He then worked for the La Crosse Trane Company for 22 years before retiring.

George served in the Army National Guard for several years. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished bowler who was a member of the local chapter of the 700 Club.

George is survived by his children, Christopher (Brenda) Hanson of Sheboygan, Jo Anne (Tracy) Seelbinder of Peterson, Minn., Tim Hanson of La Crosse, and Thomas (Kathy) Hanson of La Crosse; seven grandchildren, Michael Hanson, Aaron Hanson, Beth (Garrett) Serres, Katie Hanson, Ian Hanson, Jordan (Maggie) Hanson, and Joseph (Kaylan) Hanson; and one great grandchild, Alexis Serres. He is further survived sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carolyn Hanson, Beverly Hanson, Kathy and Mike Sevallius, Jane Osowski, and John and Catherine Osowski. In addition to his wife, Sharon, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Clarence (Joy), Merlin (Eloise), Edith, Einar, James and Ray; and brother-in-law, Mike Osowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 14 ^th , at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman, 530 Main St., La Crosse, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Msgr. Richard Gilles will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in the Catholic Cemetery.
