Gary Eugene Schock of LaCrosse, WI, 81, peacefully passed away on August 28, 2022, at the VA Center in Tomah, WI after a long illness. He was born on March 8, 1941, to Gordon Eugene Schock and Dorothy (Hengel, Schock) Cox. Gary is survived by a sister, Lynn (Dev) Desplinter, Moline, IL; four children, Gary G. Schock (Sheila), Algonquin, IL; Tony Smith, Little Rock, AR; Tracy Schock, Brookfield, IL; Elizabeth “Beth” Schock, LaCrosse, WI; four step children, Scott, Steve, Joe, and Shelly Achterberg, Diamond Springs, CA, and many aunts, uncles, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Penny (Galati) Schock. Gary proudly served in the Air Force as a mechanic in the late 1950s. He worked at AT&T (formerly Pacific Bell) in California for over 30 years. He always cared for and took in stray animals and made them family. Always a man of innovation, he was an avid builder of homes and structures throughout his lifetime. He always enjoyed being part of the outdoors. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in the near future by invitation only. Memorials may be made directly to the family.
