Gary A. Marx

Gary A. Marx, 78 of La Crosse passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024. He was born at home on February 10, 1946, near Cashton, Wisconsin to Raymond and Leona (Herricks) Marx and graduated from Cashton High School in 1964.

On June 7, 1969, he married Mary Ann Larson in Cashton. They welcomed their four children, Curtis, Tami, Pamela and Rebecca to their family while living in Cashton. In 1973 the family moved to La Crosse where Gary worked in the building materials business. For over 30 years he owned and operated “Building Products Resale”. It was during this time that he began a treasured relationship with many in the Amish community.

Gary enjoyed spending time on his land near Cashton. He enjoyed country music, card games and creating fond memories with his grandchildren watching Big Joe’s Polka Show. Gary’s greatest love and joy was his wife Mary Ann, who stayed by his side during his final weeks on hospice.

In addition to his loving wife Mary Ann, he is survived by four children, Curtis (Vickie) Marx of La Crescent, MN, Tami (Steve) Belcher of Camp Douglas, WI, Pamela (Joel) Hefti of La Crosse and Rebecca McNeil of Blaine, MN; nine grandchildren, Raymond (Amanda) Marx, Jerry (Shelby) Marx, Amanda Marx, Kevin (fiancé, Peyton Gross) Griswold, Jason Griswold, Megan (fiancé, Carter Kauffmann) Hefti, William Hefti, Katherine McNeil and Christine McNeil; five great-grandchildren, Alice, Graham, Kyler, Grayson and Austyn Marx; along with a sister, Mary Weibel of Cashton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Leona Marx; a sister, Carol Rademacher; three brothers-in-law, Dick Rademacher, Rich Weibel and Bob Hazlett; father and mother-in-law, Vernon and Dorothy Larson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 10th at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the La Crosse Chapter of the American Red Cross, 2927 Losey Blvd. South, La Crosse, WI 54601.
