Galo R. Burgos of La Crosse, formerly of Chicago and Evanston, Illinois passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. He was born in Quito, Ecuador on December 1, 1927. He studied engineering at the Central University in Quito. He arrived in the U.S. on Thanksgiving Day, 1952. He completed his undergraduate studies at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois and received his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1956.
Mr. Burgos worked as a civil and mechanical engineer for 40 years. A large portion of his work was for the architectural firm of Skidmore, Ownings and Merrill in Chicago. In this capacity, Mr. Burgos worked on the construction of the John Hancock Center, the Daley Center and the original McCormick Place in Chicago.
Mr. Burgos lived his life with a positive, forward looking attitude. He enjoyed travel, wine, good food, engaging conversation, and all sports.
He is survived by his wife Ann, his son Fabio, and his grandchildren Emmett and Isabel. He was predeceased by his parents Ulpiano Burgos and Victoria Munive and his brothers Jaime and Arturo Burgos.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 18 th , from 5 until 7 P.M. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Private family burial will take place in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Online condolences may be given at www.schumacher-kish.com .
