Frederick W. Betthauser

Frederick W. “Fred” Betthauser, 86, of Muscoda, WI, formerly of La Crosse, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital. Fred was born on October 28, 1937, to Fred and Helen (Wurtzel) Betthauser. He married Rosemarie (Hanson) Jolivette on March 11, 1971. He was employed by Trane Co. for 43 years. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed many hobbies over the years including set-lining, clam digging, duck and goose hunting. He especially enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. Another hobby was building and flying model airplanes. Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Angela (Steven) Hornby; step-daughters, Karen (Deak Lyden) Jolivette, Laure (John) Olson, and Michelle (David) Ellingson; grandchildren, Lt. Colonel Brandon (Katherine) Olson, Joshua (Alexandra Brandt) Olson, Gwendolyn (Tyler) Benish, Brittany (Richie Graham) Ellingson, Camden (Chyanne Crowell) Ellingson; great grandchildren, Lauren Olson, and Arielle and Aiden Benish. Fred had just learned he was expecting a fourth great grandchild in June. He is further survived by his sister, Mary (Vernon) Benson; brother, Donald Betthauser; sister-in-law, Rose Betthauser; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemarie; sisters, Marge Cina and Charlotte Moratz; brothers, Richard Betthauser and Robert Betthauser; brothers-in-law, Ralph Cina and Henry Moratz; and sister-in-law, Donna Betthauser.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse, WI 54601. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services. A committal service and military honors will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the care at Riverdale Health Center and Gundersen Boscobel Hospital.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Coulee Region Humane Society or Vernon County Ag Foundation.
