Fern E. Hauser, 91, of La Crosse, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
Fern was born in Hokah, Minnesota on March 8, 1929, to Le Roy and Hattie (Gollnick) Hauser. She grew up on French Island and was a graduate of Logan High School. She went on to attend Armstrong College in Berkley, Cal.
Fern worked as a medical secretary at Gundersen Clinic for 12 years. She then worked for the U.S. State Department for 21 years which took to posts all over the world such as Japan, Switzerland, Poland, Columbia, Panama, Canada and Mexico. After she retired from the State Department, Fern lived in San Antonio, Texas for several years before returning to La Crosse.
Fern was a long-time member of Olivet Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
She is survived by a sister, Irene Hauser, of Onalaska; a sister-in-law, Mary Hauser; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Ruth Fix, Myrtle Schomberg, Della Roraff, and Cora Melby; and five brothers, Arthur, Robert, Steve, Russell and Ralph Hauser.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 17 th , at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Rev. David Baldukas will officiate. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Guests are asked to be mindful of social distancing guidelines and masks or facial covering will be required.
