Faye L. Schoen

Faye L. (Medinger) Schoen, 90, of La Crosse, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020, at the Hillview Health Care Center.

She was born in La Crosse on February 17, 1930, to Benjamin and Clara Krause Medinger.  She married Hilary B. “Larry” Schoen on May 15, 1946, at Holy Trinity Parish in La Crosse.  Larry preceded her in death on April 3, 2000.

Faye worked for many years as a cook at the Family & Children’s Center and at The Patio and cafeteria at Lutheran Hospital.  She was a member of the V.F.W.  and American Legion Auxilary, serving as president of the Legion Auxiliary at Post 52 in the past.  She was also a member of the Eagles Club.

Faye was an avid bingo and poker player and loved taking trips to the casinos.  She also had an uncanny, long-time lucky streak, winning multiple large cash prizes and even a car at one time.  She grew up with a group of friends that called themselves the "State Road Gang".

Faye is survived by her children, Donna Ruud of La Crosse, Michael Schoen of La Crosse, Mary Jo (Jeff) Suhr of Columbus, Ohio, Rita Shufelt of Mesa, Ariz., and Rachel (Troy) Oestreich of Eau Claire; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.  In addition to her husband, Larry, she was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce and Jeffrey; son-in-law, Donald Ruud; daughter-in-law, Toni Ann Schoen; her nine siblings; and other extended family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 31 ^st , at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish in La Crosse.  Rev. Brian D. Konopa will officiate.  Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum, La Crosse.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.  Guests are asked to mindful of social distancing guidelines while in attendance and masks or facial coverings will be required.
