Everett L. Mellem, 95, of Onalaska, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Springbrook Assisted Living. He was born on September 25, 1922 in Wheatland Township, WI to Bert and Ethel (Cade) Mellem. Everett was a US Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Jane Jessen on December 9, 1944. Everett had worked as an auditor for REA for 20 years, traveling throughout the tri-state area where he made numerous friendships. He enjoyed making bluebird houses, fishing, hunting, camping and golfing. In his retirement, he and Jane became snowbirds, traveling all over the United States living in their 5 th wheel camper. Everett loved to stop and talk with anyone he met on the road.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jane, six children, Marion (Jerry) Dencklau, Sharon (Roger) Dunn, Jerry (Debbie) Mellem, David (Mary) Mellem, Pamela (Guy) Johnson, and Dennis (Jackie) Mellem, 12 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 12 step-great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a sister La Vonne Krause, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter, Kayce Helgerson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Ave. So. Pastor Tim Duesenberg will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of services.Thursday, September 27, 2018
