Evelyn Joan Mikshowsky

September 5, 1931 — June 9, 2017

Newburgs Corner

Heaven has gained a special angel. Our dear mom, Evelyn J. Mikshowsky passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, June 9, 2017, at her home. Evelyn was the fourth child born to Rudy and Lucy (Klug) Kammel on September 5, 1931. Evelyn attended St. Joseph Ridge Catholic School for grades 1-8. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1950. After high school, she worked as a clerk typist for Allis Chalmers. On June 3, 1952, she married Ralph Mikshowsky at St. Joseph Ridge Catholic Church. They pursued their love for farming and purchased Ralph’s home farm. Over the next several years, Evelyn supported Ralph as they established Ralph’s Trucking and Supply as a truck driver, bookkeeper, and whatever task was asked of her. In addition, she managed their home, and raised their family.  She was a kindhearted, compassionate, person who was always lending a helping hand. Her days were filled with her love for yard work, mending, and baking for others who enjoyed her delicious cookies, cakes, and desserts. Her annual Christmas cookie decorating day has been a treasured tradition that will be missed. Evelyn also enjoyed eating out and treating family, friends, and neighbors to breakfast and lunch.

Evelyn had a strong Catholic faith. Her life revolved around her faith, family, and friends. Attending Mass, praying the rosary, and receiving the Sacraments were an important part of her life. Evelyn’s life could easily be defined by the commitment and love that she devoted to her family. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by those who loved and cherished her.

Evelyn is survived by one daughter and three sons, Connie (Mike) Miller of La Crosse, Randy (Sara) Mikshowsky of Bangor, Rick (Barb) Mikshowsky of Coon Valley, Larry (Donna) Mikshowsky of Bangor; eleven grandchildren, Laura (Jamey) Moore, Kristin (John) Engstrom, Tara (Adam) Olson, Ashley Mikshowsky, Megan (Jason) Levendoski, Travis (Jade) Mikshowsky, Kassi (Garrick) Olerud, Cory Mikshowsky (fiancé Ashlee Gabrielson), Austin, Nicole, and Breanna Mikshowsky; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald (Pat) Kammel, Kenneth Kammel, Reiny (Darlene) Kammel, two sisters, Marce (Syl) Liebl, Marian Roesler, and three sisters-in-law Rosie Kammel, Ettie Kammel, and Theresa Arentz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adolph and Bertha Mikshowsky; two brothers, Eugene and Gerald; brothers-in-law, Bob Roesler, Bernie Thiele, Joe Mikshowsky, Bernard Hammes, Al Hammes, Ray Jungen, Arnold Arentz, and Elmer Servais; sisters-in-law, Jean Kammel, Carol Kammel, Orena Mikshowsky, Bernadine Jungen, Marie Servais, Mildred Hammes, and Margaret Martell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Ridge, with the Rev. Msgr. Robert Hundt and Deacon Robert Zietlow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass Saturday, all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

A heartfelt thank you to Msgr. Hundt and Deacon Bob for their spiritual support during this difficult time.

Our world has changed; we have lost a piece of our heart, but we take comfort knowing Mom is in our Lord’s loving hands.
