Eunice M.C. Dahlen

Eunice M. C. Dahlen, 91 of La Crescent, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Eagle Crest South Living Community in La Crosse. She was born on August 25, 1932, in West Prairie, Wisconsin to Arnold and Marie (Swangstu) Fortun and graduated from Westby High School in 1950. Eunice earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. While attending Luther, she was proud to have taken Norwegian language courses.

On June 15, 1957, she married Philip Dahlen, and he preceded her in death on August 18, 2016. Eunice and Philip moved to La Crescent in the 1960’s and built their forever home on Town Hall Road in 1969. Eunice was proud to have served as a teacher for the La Crescent Elementary School for over 30 years. She said she always loved teaching children.

Eunice had enjoyed many things away from school, such as reading, enjoying the outdoors with Phil and watching the deer near her home.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews and other extended family members. In addition to her husband Philip, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and her beloved dog, “Floppy.”

Eunice’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Riverside Transitional Care and Eagle Crest South for their wonderful care and dedication during her time with them.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26th at 11:00 A.M. until the memorial service at 12:00 P.M. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 21 N. Hill Street in La Crescent with Pastor Kary Jonas officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or the La Crescent Elementary School.
