Eugene E. Papenfuss

Eugene E. Papenfuss, age 87, of Onalaska, WI passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022.

Eugene was born on September 30, 1935, at home in rural Pickwick, MN, to Herman and Nora (Armitage) Papenfuss.  He was united in marriage with Idella (Holten) Papenfuss on June 10, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, MN and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage.

He was employed as a journeyman machinist at Trane Company in LaCrosse, WI for 35 years.  He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served for 4 years.

Eugene was an active member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Onalaska, WI.

He will be remembered for being active outdoors, always feeding and watching the birds, mowing the lawn on his John Deere tractor, spending time with his grandchildren, enjoying a good western novel, and putting puzzles together.

Eugene is lovingly survived by his wife Idella; his children Donna (Patrick) McBride, Julie (Joseph) Konichek, Lowell Papenfuss, and Amy (Greg) Van Lin; seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clyde, Arvid, Ellsworth, and Weston and sisters Elva Parpart and Betty Reissman.
