Eugene Robert Hollnagel

Eugene R. “Gene” Hollnagel, 84 of Onalaska, Wis., passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side on Sunday, July 23, 2017. He was born in La Crosse, Wis. on November 11, 1932 to Robert and Agnes (Gutweiler) Hollnagel. Following his high school graduation in 1951, Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a radio operator until his honorable discharge in 1955. On March 30, 1957 he married Carol J. Stange in La Crosse. Gene had worked for the Trane Company and the La Crosse Cooler Company for 31 years. He and Carol had also owned and operated Holly’s One Stop for 19 years until his retirement in 1996.

In addition to his wife Carol of Onalaska, he is survived by his children; David (Sandra) Hollnagel of Sussex, Wis., Robert (Teresa) Hollnagel Sr. of La Crosse, Lisa (Matthew) Brooks of Spring Hill, KS., Daughter in law Laurie Hollnagel of Plymouth, Wis., his brother Ramon (Gayda) Hollnagel Sr. of Onalaska, sister in law Janice Deml of La Crosse, nine grandchildren; Mitchell Andrews and Ryan Andrews, Robert Hollnagel Jr. and Aubrey Hollnagel, Alexa Selner, Michael Hollnagel and Benjamin Hollnagel and Amber Brooks and Matthew Brooks II. He is further survived by 7 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son Rick Hollnagel and one brother Donald Hollnagel.

A memorial service followed by military rites will be held at 11am on Thursday July 27, 2017 at the Onalaska Church of Christ. Pastor Gordon Clary will officiate. Friends may call on the family at the church on Thursday from 10am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Onalaska Church of Christ.
