Eugene “Muggs” Fanello, 83 of Trempealeau, WI passed away peacefully, at his home on Sunday, December 17, 2017. He was born July 18, 1934 in La Crosse to Antonio and Eunice (Waller) Fanello and attended school in Genoa, WI. On June 8, 1957 he married Joan Isbell at St. Charles Catholic Church in Genoa.
Muggs had served in the United States Army from March 1957 until his discharge in May of 1959. He had worked for over 40 years for Dolly Madison Dairies which became Marigold Foods and then Kemps Dairy until his retirement. He owned and operated Muggs’ Place Tavern in Ettrick for several years and also volunteered as a firefighter for the Stoddard/Bergen Fire Department.
Muggs is survived by his wife Joan; two sons, Don (JoAnn) Fanello of Trempealeau and David Fanello of Onalaska; a son-in-law, David Rybold of Holmen; six grandchildren, Jamie (Nathan) Wojciechowski, Doniel (Daniel) Escalera, Kylie (John) Fanello, Stephanie (Drew) Rybold, Erika (Jared) Happel and Anthony (Carly) Rybold; 8 great-grandchildren, Hallie, David, Jase, Eliot, Alison, Henry, Evelyn and Gwenivere; a brother, Phillip (Shirley) Fanello; a sister-in-law, Carole Cox; a brother-in-law, Robert (Lorraine) Isbell and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gina Rybold; a grandson, David Fanello, Jr.; two sisters, Giovanna Mathison and Betty Moore; five brothers, Dominic, Anton, Frank, Albert and Giuseppi “Joe” Fanello; along with a step-brother, Thomas.
Private family services will be held and burial with military services will follow in the Stoddard Village Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Coulee Council on Addiction, 921 West Avenue South, La Crosse, WI 54601.
