Esther M. Vandre, age 100, of La Crosse passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Hearten House II. She was born May 15, 1919 in Milwaukee, WI to John and Amelia (Koegel) Klein. On July 19, 1941, Esther married George Vandre and, after 60 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on September 20, 2001.
Esther was a woman of many talents; she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She gave back to her community through her work as a volunteer for Mayo Healthcare for 21 years during her retirement. She was active socially and enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and golfing. Throughout her life she was very artistic and never met a craft she couldn’t master.
Esther is survived by four children: Lyn (Peter) Bissen of Hokah, MN, Gretchen (Russell) Brinkman of Onalaska, Susan Parenteau of Savage, MN and John (Connie) Vandre of Sheboygan, WI, five grandchildren, Joe, John, Mandy, Carolyn and Adrian; five great-grandchildren, Oliver, Kaitlyn, Casey, Lauren and Nolan, one great-great-grandson Theo and friends. In addition to her husband George, she was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Eilers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 16 th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah, MN. Private family entombment will take place in Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Esther’s family would like to thank her team from Inclusa, Dr. Erin Morcomb, the staff at Hearten House II and Mayo Hospice for their loving care and support.
