Emil V. Verse, 95 of La Crosse passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Hillview Health Care Center. He was born November 8, 1921 in La Crosse to Joseph and Helen (Kabat) Verse and graduated from Central High School.
Emil was a WWII United States Marine Corps Veteran who served proudly from July 21, 1942 until his discharge on November 6, 1945. On January 13, 1945, he married Marilyn M. Allington at St. Mary’s Basilica in Minneapolis and she preceded him in death on May 21, 2016.
Emil had worked for 32 years at Borden’s Dairy in La Crosse and then for 11 years in the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Chemistry Department. He was a volunteer fireman for the Shelby Fire Department for many years, Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 and served as an usher at St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler and a star athlete in baseball. In their retirement years Emil and Marilyn enjoyed spending summers in Wisconsin Dells and wintering in Tucson, AZ as well as traveling across the country.
Emil is survived by his children; David (Jan) Verse of Livingston, TX, Dale (Connie) Verse of Houston, MN, Patrick (Debra) Verse of La Crosse and Lynn (David) Rude of Rochester, MN; seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild; two sisters, Rosie Ramey of Onalaska and Ruth Marnach of La Crosse; a brother, Jerry (Sherry) Verse of La Crosse and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Marilyn, he was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Amy Jo Verse; a great-granddaughter, McKenna Verse; two sisters, Winnie Tadt and Shirley Smith and a brother, Joe Verse.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 6 th at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse with Rev. Brian D. Konopa officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to American Legion Post 52, the Bus Fund at Hillview Health Care Center or Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.
