Eldon Thore Ellefson

Eldon Thore Ellefson, 90, of La Crosse, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. Eldon was born on August 18, 1933 in Viroqua, WI to Olaf and Maline Ellefson. He graduated from Luther College in 1956 and served with the US Army from 1956-1958. He married Frances Smith in June of 1961. Eldon had worked at Alexander Grant Co., Norplex, Wisconsin Bargeline in St. Louis, and Mathy Construction until his retirement in 1997. Eldon and Fran enjoyed going on trips. They enjoyed going to Norway twice, Germany, Switzerland, and other exciting places. Eldon was also an avid fisherman and hunter. He even got his moose!

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Fran, two sons, Tim (Tammy) of St. Louis, MO, and Mark (Sharon) of Milwaukee, five grandchildren, Jake, Whitney, Zachary, Matthew, and Halle, three sisters, Gloria (Robert) Overboe of Westby, Shirley Bolstad of Viroqua, and Betty (La Monte) Auch of Minneapolis, a brother Bill Ellefson of West Prairie, WI, and many nieces and nephews. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, a son Kevin Ellefson, and two brothers-in-law, Tommy Bolstad and Tony Stalsberg.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 13th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Harald Bringsjord will officiate. Burial will follow in the Northwest Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Stanley, WI. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
