Eileen Mae Schroeder

Eileen Mae (Hohlfeld) Schroeder, age 91, of La Crosse, passed away February 5 th , 2022 at Gundersen Hospital surrounded by family. Eileen was born May 7, 1930, to Herman and Anna (Doerre) Hohlfeld, in Vernon County, Wisconsin.

She graduated from Westby High School in 1948. Eileen married her sweetheart, Leroy Schroeder on October 6 th , 1948. They were blessed with seven children, Dennis, Linda, Gordon, Gerald, Steven, Laurie, and Lisa. Leroy passed away in 1996.

Eileen was an example of strength, kindness, and unconditional love. She said that God gave her long arms so she could wrap them around all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. Eileen especially loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was known for clothesline blanket tents, sugared French toast and orange Kool-Aid. She enjoyed gardening and canning dill pickles, which were a family favorite. Eileen arrived at every gathering with a jar of her special dill pickles and delicious chocolate chip cookies. Her love for family was what kept her going for 91 years. Most recently, caring for her great-grandchildren, Preston, Kayden and Avery.

Eileen is survived by her two daughters Linda (Gary) Fossum, Laurie (Randy) Erler and two sons Gordon (Sherri) Schroeder, Steven (Lottie) Schroeder; nineteen grandchildren: Heather Hodovance, Heath Schroeder, Jared Schroeder, Jennifer Brock, Gary Fossum, RJ Erler, Brittany Erler, Brad Schroeder, Brian Schroeder, Nichole Coles, Erin Lynch, Steve Schroeder, Sadie Schroeder, Kristina Howard, Emily Raasch, Stephanie Crockwell, Melanie Owens, Ben Beyersdorf, and Cody Beyersdorf.

She is also survived by thirty-three great-grandchildren, which she adored: Frederick Beyersdorf, Addison Brock, Ava Brock, Jaden Coles, Brennan Coles, Aiyanna Crockwell, Annalise Crockwell, Preston Erler, Kayden Erler, Avery Erler-Potter, Sophia Erler, Carter Erler, Hollis Hodovance, Oscar Hodovance, Jocelyn Hodovance, Kileigh Howard, JaeLynn Howard, Henry Howard, Maxwell Howard, Jana Lynch, Galiana Lynch, Frederick Lynch, Ava Owens, Chloe Owens, Lillian Raasch, Gus Raasch, Elsie Raasch, Clara Raasch, Colten Schroeder, Mason Schroeder, Caleb Schroeder, Olivia Schroeder, and Charles White.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Schroeder; sons, Gerald Schroeder and Dennis Schroeder; daughter, Lisa Beyersdorf; daughter-in-law, Julie Schroeder; son-in-law, Scott Johnson; great-granddaughter, Kaelyn Coles, three brothers, Ervin Hohlfeld, Herman Hohlfeld and Eddie Hohlfeld; and four sisters, Lucille Becker, Elsie Wuensch, Minnie Clements and Annie Liebl.

She may be gone from our sight, but she will never be gone from our hearts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Mary Mother of the Church, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse, Wisconsin. Rev. Brian D. Konopa will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Eileen will be laid to rest at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park.
