Edward J. Bakalars

Edward J. Bakalars, 81, of La Crosse, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

Ed was born in La Crosse on March 27, 1939, to Edward and Effie (Hansen) Bakalars.  He attended La Crosse Schools and was a 1957 graduate of La Crosse Central High School.  He later obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from U.W.-La Crosse.

Ed married Carol L. Blumenstein on May 12, 1962, in La Crosse.  He owned and operated La Crosse Hearing Aid Center for 50 years.

Ed was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his brothers in his free time.  He was very devoted to his family and adored his grandchildren.  He always loved attending Katie’s and Kiersten’s sporting events and tractor rides with little Josh.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his son, Paul (Vickie) Bakalars of La Crescent; his grandchildren, Katie, Kiersten, and Joshua Bakalars; two brothers, David (Sonja) Bakalars and Richard (Micheline) Bakalars, both of Onalaska; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Ronald, James, Gordon and Robert Bakalars.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery.  A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10th, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse.
